[zhang he of China unicom] : first, please briefly introduce the market situation of the area you focus on.

The company in the field of access network has more than ten years of history, in China's broadband construction, especially optical fiber to the home, there are a lot of use of youbochuang products. Starting from 2017, the company has also started to deploy 5G products accordingly. Especially this year, a lot of resources have been invested in 5G products to develop corresponding products. We expect to have more cooperation with 5G industry to promote the development of the industry in the future.
 
SiFotonics: founded in 2007, SiFotonics focuses on the development of silicon optical chip applications for many years, and holds a number of silicon germanium devices and integration technology patents. In the future, both 400G data centers and 5G fields have great potential to realize large-scale applications of silicon optical chips. The company is also interested in working with industry optical-module companies, operators and data center users to explore ways to promote large-scale commercial use of optical-silicon chips. Especially recently, the domestic chip requirements and a sense of urgency in the situation of intensified, the company hopes to be able to cooperate with the domestic optical communication development trend, as soon as possible to realize the scale of silicon optical chip commercial.

We have production and r&d bases in Beijing, Shanghai, chengdu and haikou. Cable is one of corning's earliest businesses. In 1970, corning invented the first commercial communication fiber, which opened a new era of optical fiber communication. Corning has been particularly focused on fiber innovation. The e innovation of optical fiber technology is mainly based on two aspects, one is combined with the development of optical transmission technology, the use of new optical fiber technology to improve the performance of the transmission system, on the other hand the innovation is to meet and optical fiber in engineering convenient, fast use and various scenarios of flexible deployment. The company is very concerned about the opportunities and challenges brought by the 5G era to the fiber and cable industry, and hopes to make contributions to the construction of 5G network.
 
[Source xiaoqing] : solskoptronics has a history of more than 30 years in the industry, and has the capability of vertical integration from chip to optical module. Solsi's products currently cover wireless applications, data centers, transmission networks, and broadband access. In the field of wireless applications, solsi was the first to launch the 5G/6G rate industrial-grade temperature and light module in the 3G era, and the first to launch the 10G rate industrial-grade temperature and light module in the 4G era. At present, I am mainly responsible for some optical module products for 5G carrier network in the company. I hope to continue to carry forward solskoptronics' leading position in technology in the 5G era and make my own contribution to the development of 5G in China.
 
[zhang he of China unicom] : 2019 is the first year of 5G, and everyone is concerned about the commercial deployment of 5G. What expectations do you have for the timing and scale of 5G deployment?
 
[SiFotonics] : 5G overall layout globally, the layout is at a different pace. Some are government driven, some are operators driven, the form is not the same. For China, the force driven by the government is stronger. I hope the government action can be turned into commercial action and a complete and sound value chain can be built. This is the healthy way of development. In the United States, where 5G has been slower to develop, both Verizion and AT&T have announced the deployment of 5G, but both are currently short of point-to-point fiber to the home. We hope that the deployment of 5G can be realized faster, and we can make technical reserves for the follow-up 5G to support 5G scale commercial use.
 
[ubochuang lu yong] : in some areas of shenzhen, the trial commercial deployment of 5G has been started. In the vehicle system and buildings, there are some small-scale trial commercial trials of 5G. At the same time, 5G coverage has been achieved on the whole chengdu second ring road, on some subways in chengdu and in some hot spots in urban areas. From an industry perspective, especially for optical devices, we want 5G to be as fast as possible so that we can ship more goods.
 
[zhang he of China unicom] : everyone has the same idea and hopes to speed up the pace of commercial deployment. However, the price of some equipment adopting new technologies is still relatively high, which does not meet the requirements of low-cost deployment of operators. It may still be necessary for the industrial chain to promote the development of technology to promote the deployment of 5G. Next would like to invite Chen haochen to talk about, now when it comes to 5G, it is still full of thunder and rain, we have been discussing 5G for a long time, how do you think about the prospect of 5G market? When will everyone really enjoy the 5G bonus?
 
【 kang ning Chen hao 】 : at present, people outside the industry are more anxious about the deployment and commercial use of 5G than operators. You've just outlined your vision of a better life with 5G. But the real benefits of 5G depend on when the infrastructure is built. On this basic network, some successful application cases have been developed, just like 4G network brought the rise of mobile Internet, which greatly changed our life. In terms of 5G deployment, the investment plans of the three major operators for 5G in 2019 are generally cautious. But the enthusiasm of local government construction of 5 g is very high, in chengdu, for example, or other places of some high-tech zone, has a strong power to 5 g infrastructure built, promote new application scenarios and business model development, have a good profit model, a single spark can start a prairie fire, operators have greater incentive to large-scale deployment of 5 g. In the short term, we see the enthusiasm of local governments will continue to promote 5G construction and development.
 
[zhang he of China unicom] : Chen haochen always hopes that the government will vigorously promote 5G. How does xiao qingxiao always look at the prospect of 5G?
 
[Source xiao qing] : as far as government driving is concerned, I actually hope that the demand for 5G will be driven by the market. This is a healthy market, which is more conducive to the development of healthy enterprises in the whole industry and related industries. I lived through the 3G and 4G era at soles, when the demand for optical modules was growing very fast. Although 5G media has promoted 5G a lot in the past two years, we actually feel that the growth of demand for 5G is relatively slow. The 5G market is undoubtedly a very big pie, but I think we need to have a psychological expectation of the long growth cycle and slow growth of the 5G market.
 
[zhang he of China unicom] : I would like to ask the guests of the module company, as a module company, there are many plans for 5G. How to give full play to the advantages of the module company and occupy a favorable position in the market in the 5G carrying scheme?
 
[SiFotonics] : we certainly want to play to our strengths in silicon light. Silicon light has broad application prospects, we are especially looking forward to 5G. We hope to reduce the cost and power consumption through advanced detection technology and silicon optical integration, and break the fixed thinking in the industry, which is very promising for development.
 
[zhang he of China unicom] : when do you expect the high-speed light module using silicon light technology to be commercially available on a large scale?
 
SiFotonics: at 4 × 25 gigabytes, silicon light is actually ready for commercial use. I personally think 4*100G in the data center is a good point to cut into silicon light. This year, some manufacturers have provided 4*100G products with silicon light integration. The trend is already on, data centers are the first users, data centers lead the demand for high bandwidth, si optical integration provides lower cost per G bit, so will be the first to use. I think the operators should learn from the development of this data center and also promote the si integrated application.
 
[yubochuang lu yong] : as Dr. Yu genchen said, silicon light is now a hot point. The difficulty for silicon light is the same as the traditional way, which is how to reduce the cost in the application of 5G. In fact, we talked to some device manufacturers three years ago, and they thought silicon was the technology to make the whole 5G prequel cheaper, but so far we haven't been able to see the advantages of this technology. Now we are considering using a separate reliability technology of data center for reference. In the future, we can also promote products for 5G pretransmission through CCSA in China and make a separate reliability standard, instead of using the original standard that covers all applications. There is a specific customization requirement for 5G prequel, which may reduce our cost. Now ubochuang is mainly through its own internal photoelectric integration, as well as technological innovation and packaging technology to meet the requirements of our products. Innovation is achieved through external collaboration, like some of our low-cost adjustable technologies, with innovative companies or by implementing our technologies. As far as optical devices are concerned, light and electricity can never be separated, because the performance of light can be supplemented by electricity, and we can reduce the power of light. Now ubochuang is active in photoelectric hybrid packaging, especially adjustable low-cost 5G road to achieve innovation. Now we control the cost of 25G DWDM products to meet future needs. In the future, when 5G is truly commercialized, the silicon light will decrease in the distributed and short-distance mode, but the adjustable and color mode will have a relatively long life cycle. From the 4G bidding, in order to meet the requirements of wide coverage, operators directly collect optical modules, which are actually more 10G optical modules with coarse wave fractions. Color light module will become a mainstream in the future, which is also the direction of our development.
 
[zhang he of China unicom] : the adoption of the color light module in the future prequel is very compatible with the g.etro technology promoted by China unicom in the industry at present. I believe that the rough wave separation module will also have a certain application prospect in the future, but it will not become the mainstream.
 
【Source xiaoqing 】 : in view of the 5G market, I think there are two important points for the optical module industry. The first point is scale. The 5G market has a huge demand for universal optical modules, and only scale can bring cost effect. Combined with solsi's own characteristics, we have the vertical production capacity from chip to optical module, which has a great advantage in production capacity and cost after we break through the whole industrial chain. The second point is differentiation. We can see that 5G pretransmit has single fiber bidirectional, double fiber bidirectional, active WDM, passive WDM and other network structures, and there are various requirements for optical modules. In the face of diversified needs, if you combine with the company's own characteristics to develop some differentiated products, it will also help you to occupy a certain favorable position in the market.
 
[zhang he of China unicom] : do you have anything to add?
 
One thing worth adding is coherence, which you might think is higher. traditionally, coherence has been used for long-distance trunk lines and core cities. In fact, the industry has recently been talking about coherent applications for relatively short distances such as 5G forward and back. The key is how to reduce costs. Silicon optical integration will also become a mainstream solution.
 
[zhang he of China unicom] with the arrival of 5G, the demand for optical fiber and fiber optic cable has been pushed very much, but at present, it seems that the situation is not completely optimistic. What do you think about this?
 
【 kang ning Chen hao 】 : this is also a cable enterprises pay special attention to a problem. Since around 2014, 4G and FTTH, two driving forces, have made the fiber optic cable industry experience a period of rapid development. In the past four years, the demand for optical fiber and fiber optic cable is very big, and the cable companies have done a lot of capacity expansion to meet this demand. By 2018 and 19, 4G and FTTH in China had been basically deployed, while 5G was still in the stage of trial commercial use, and the demand for optical fiber had not been really stimulated, which led to the current market situation. Currently, the operator is conducting a thorough investigation of cable resources and machine room resources to prepare for the large-scale deployment of 5G in the future. We believe that once 5G is deployed on a commercial scale, demand for fiber and cable will increase significantly and the industry will show its vitality.
 
[zhang he of China unicom] what plans does ubochuang have for the high-end 400G module in the future?
 
【 yobotrong lu yong 】 : in the past few years, everyone talked about data centers, but the whole industry, especially the optical device industry, was hit the most by the decline of wireless network application and broadband industry demand. Since the beginning of 2018, ubochuang has provided 400G products. In this year's shenzhen light expo, we will have some dynamic demonstrations of 400G products. But if 400G doesn't solve the problem of cost, it's hard to get commercial scale.
 
Conclusion: there are still many challenges in the industry in 2019. How to reduce the deployment cost of 5G still needs our joint efforts. Expect 5G soon!
